Looking for a nursery in Maryland? Here are our favorites!
Being in the landscaping industry, I guess you can say we have some pretty good knowledge of local nurseries. Whether we are in need of plants or mulch for customers, or seasonal decorations and outdoor products for our own house, here are a few of our favorites you’ll need to be sure and check out.
Patuxent Nursery– Located in Bowie, just off Rt.301. We thoroughly enjoy Patuxent in the spring and summer. If you haven’t been, this place is HUGE! It is jam packed with shrubs, flowers, trees and grasses. They also have a wide range of back yard patio supplies, bird feeding supplies, pottery, and anything needed to help your gardens thrive. On the far side of the nursery, you can buy mulch, stone and more. Prices may be a tad bit higher than say, your local Home Depot, but the quality is superior to none. If your planning a new garden, or are looking for ideas, you have to check this place out! Bonus tip: the staff are extremely knowledgeable and can help guide you in the right direction.
Homestead Gardens– Just up the road and a short scenic trip up the road from Patuxent Nursery is Homestead Gardens. They have 2 locations, 1 in Davidsonville off Rt. 214 and another in Severna Park. We’ve only been to Davidsonville, so our info is purely based on that location. This is our favorite fall/pre Christmas nursery. If you want to get into the festive mood, check this place out in the fall, but more on that later. Homestead Gardens has your typical lawn and landscaping supplies, plants, trees, shrubs and the usual ‘garden center’ items. They also have a good supply of farm and pet supplies. Looking to raise chickens? They have the stuff you need! And if your looking for dog or cat food, they have that too. What really sets them apart is their fall festivities. They have a Fall Festival that has everything from a corn maze and hay ride to food an drinks. Tickets are very affordable too. Stop by before Christmas and check out their Christmas shop, it’s AMAZING! Bonus tip: they host AWESOME seminars year round, so be sure to check their website for dates and times.
Sun Nurseries– Going up I70 and just passed Columbia is Sun Nurseries. HOLY COW do they have anything and everything you need. Want lemon or lime trees? What about a pear, peach or apple tree? They also have thousands of plants, shrubs, grasses and much more on their 20 acre farm. Talk about quality, their stuff is top notch. Voted Best In Baltimore in 1994 and again in 2009, these folks do an amazing job, not to mention, a lot of their plants are grown right at the nursery! If your in the area, be sure to check them out! Bonus tip: they are very socially active on facebook so be sure and check out their latest updates and pictures of what they have.
Miller Farms– While not quite our typical nursery, we stop here for their delicious bakery goods and fresh local produce. Located on Piscataway Rd in Clinton, Miller Farms is always an awesome place to stop in and check out if your in the area. Family owned since 1840, this is PG County treat is hidden away from the ‘city life’. Their 267 acre farm has it all- between fresh baked goods and homemade ice cream, to fruits/vegetables and seasonal displays, they are why we love shopping local. Be sure to check them out!
